May 2017

I think Mother Nature is confused. May started off with three seasons in one day. Last week, we experienced snow in the morning, mid-day it warmed up and then the evening was warm enough to be outside without a coat. Today was around 79 degrees and we had the shop door open to enjoy the warm air. After living in Wyoming most of my life it still boggles my mind how the weather changes here.

This month we have several events planned. For those of you that took Jude’s hand quilting class, don’t forget the group is meeting the second Monday of every month from 1-5:00 at the shop. On Thursday, May 11th we will have our monthly BOM gathering for Twist the Night Away. As part of this gathering, all who participated in last year’s BOM Tonga Gemstones are invited to bring their quilts in for show and tell. We will meet at 5:30. Then following the BOM we will be hosting the Little Horse Power 4H group. They will be working on pillowcases as a service project to donate to the hospital. Then on Saturday, May 13th we will have our last meeting for the Second Saturday Sampler group before summer break. Join us for the last meeting if you can.

The UFO Retreat is this month and I’m looking forward to spending time with those who were able to sign up. It will be a weekend full of friendship, laughter and good food. The fall retreat dates have been picked, so mark your calendars now for the “Seams Like Home” quilt retreat Oct. 6-8, 2017. More information will be sent out in the coming months.

To finish off the month, the “A” Team and Friends will meet on May 23rd at 2:00. If you like hand work, please consider joining this group. The members work on many different projects including applique and English paper piecing. Then on May 24th the Late Night Quilters group will be meeting. The members that were at last month’s meeting have volunteered to bring dinner, so please RSVP to me atkara@quiltessentials.org if you plan to come.

Lastly, new fabric has been coming in! Some of the pieces include new batiks, wine themed fabric, juvenile fabric, new bright fabric, and wide backings. Also, in the next few weeks there will be new Minkee, westerns, more brights, and the new Steamboat fabric. Pictures are being posted to both the website and the Facebook as I have time. Make sure to check them out. Watch the website calendar and Facebook for details on classes through August. If there is a class or fabric you would like to see please let us know.

Happy Quilting,
Kara
